From the shorelines of the coast to the high Sierra mountains, fall is putting on a show of color you won’t want to miss. Wake up surrounded by natures brilliant artwork on a camping trip this autumn. Fall foliage and cool evenings around the campfire call our souls away from the cities and in to some of Cali’s best spots to relax and take in the brilliant colors of autumn fields.

Trees aren’t the only thing changing colors in the fall in California’s famous wine country. Harvest season also means the grape vines adorning Napa Valley’s landscape transform in to fields of copper and ruby red. In the Redwood forest silver maples, black oaks and big-leaf maples are adding their color to the show. Campground Recommendation -  Bothe-Napa Valley State Park

The Highway 395 corridor is well known for being one of the best areas for viewing glowing golden-orange-crimson fall colors in the western United States. Rugged granite canyons and crystal blue rivers provide a stark contrast to the vivid colors of aspen trees showing off their multi-hued foliage for a few precious weeks between September and November. A drive through Mono County will not disappoint a photographer looking to catch the season’s colors. Campground Recommendation - June Lake Campground

As if the Alpine lakes, dazzling waterfalls and crisp mountain air weren’t enough reason to visit Plumas County, a trip in the fall means you’ll get a chance to soak up the magenta and fiery orange hues of the native oaks, dogwoods, and cottonwoods. At this elevation the leaf changing happens a little bit slower and autumn palettes tends to linger longer than in the mountains farther south. Campground Recommendation - Bucks Lake Camp and RV
